American Idol 2009 Top 8 Elimination Results Show Tonight
April 8th, 2009 American Idol, Results, Season 8,Tonight on American Idol 2009, the 2009 Top 8 elimination results are set to be revealed, giving us the American Idol Top 7 for the season.
I want to hear who you think will be going home after their performances of songs from the year they were born. I have my prediction and voted in the American Idol Top 8 results poll already. Did you?
Discussion Point: Anyone notice that Adam Lambert’s Mad World was lifted from Gary Jules and Michael Andrews 2001 cover of the Tears for Fears song? At least David Cook gave credit to Chris Cornell last season when he used his version of “Billie Jean.” The 2001 version of “Mad World” spent time as a number 1 download on iTunes thanks to its use in the “Gears of War” commercial a few years back. You can watch the original version of this cover on YouTube.
Tune in tonight to hear Kellie Pickler perform her new single, “Best Days of Your Life.” Then be sure to come back here for the live results to be posted as soon as Ryan Seacrest announces them.

I think Scott will probably go home. I secretly hope Allison ends up in the bottom 3 because she is over-rated and the judges are rooting for her, big time. They want so badly to keep her in. Anoop was surprisingly good. I think Lil might end up at the bottom because of her performance, which the judge’s hated. Not sure who else will be at the bottom.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:44 am
I’m thinking it’ll be Scott too. But then again I thought his performances have been terrible all season and he keeps being brought back.
April 8th, 2009 at 8:19 am
Lil and Scott will join Matt in the bottom 3. Matt’s song wasn’t as good as the judges said. Allison is that good, she is the female version of Adam. The top 3 at the end will be Adam, Allison, and Danny. Kris will be #4, while Anoop will sit at #5. Sorry, that is just the way it is. Lil has a good singing voice, but her performances are worst the Scott’s singing. So take Scott’s singing, vs. Lil’s performance and the way she sings the songs, who is worst? Besides, Scott won’t go home tonight because votefortheworst.com is backing Scott. Lil will be sent packing. Votefortheworst.com couldn’t save Megan last week because the producers rigged it. They commented that they were tired of her performances. Watch and see, I’ve been right every week thus far.
April 8th, 2009 at 9:02 am
Hey,Yusuki…to quote Megan “I don’t care (what you think of me)”.
Allison has been at the bottom more than once, and for good reason. Granted, the judges love her–America does not.The jduge’s have a lot of influence. They want to keep females in the compettion. Allison MAY end up *top* 3 because of poor choices and mediocre performances by *other* idol contestants. Her voice is somewhat strong, but untrained, unrefined. She is not “pitch perfect” as Adam, or even Anoop, is.She misses notes too (though not as many as Scott or Matt). The ability to hit some high notes, as Allison sometimes does, should not deem one a great singer. I know she’s young, but she is just not that good. If she were 25 I doubt the judge’s would be swooning over her so effortlessly. Sorry to hurt your feelings, Yusuki, by being insulting your little emo starlet. Boo Hoo! Oh, and btw, you sound kind of dumb, too.
April 8th, 2009 at 9:36 am
Dee… Unless you have a IQ higher than mine, I don’t care what you think! I never said Allison was the greatest, but she is infact better than Scott, Kris, Matt ad Lil. That is why I put her so high. I agree she doesn’t always hit the notes, but neither does Lil, or Scott. She isn’t my pick to win, it’s Adam, but anything can happen.
April 8th, 2009 at 11:29 am
The comment about Adam playing the song off as is own, when did this happen, the boy didn’t get a chance to say anything at all before the show ended.
April 8th, 2009 at 12:46 pm
I believe the judges are tooooo hard on Lil. I’m not sure if it’s b/c she’s the only African American left on the show or what, but her performances aren’t the worst. So everyone needs to give Lil a little slack. If Lil doesn’t win American Idol, she will someday become an artist!!!!!
April 8th, 2009 at 12:58 pm
It’s not fair to criticize Adam for not acknowledging the song was arranged by someone else when he didn’t get to say anything after his performance. Last week he managed to squeeze in an honoring hat tip to the band during his ever so brief talk time. Should he interrupt Ryan or the judges with another “thanks to …”? We all know that some of the contestants get to talk while others don’t. Adam sings, the judges talk, he gets a couple sentences and that’s it. Meanwhile, other contestants get their kids paraded around and hugged on by the judges. Geez! And don’t forget that what the contestants say about their song choice gets edited… Adam probably did make a complimentary comment about the arrangement and it hit the cutting room floor.
April 8th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
I find it rather odd that they had plenty of time for others but cut Adam off AND I understand if you were recording Idol on your DVR you would have missed him.
April 8th, 2009 at 1:54 pm
bikerval, no one is totally blaming Adam for not giving credit where credit is due. However, that being said, he does claim that all of his songs are his own, but maybe we should cut him some slack this week because they cut him short. Also, Simon is a douche, he told Lil she tried to sound like Tina Turner, but the stood up for Adam where he sounded like Gary Jules.
Hey you donkey Idol lover… it has nothing to do with Lil being African America, but everything to do with her wrong song choice and they way she performs it. It was painful to listen to, and awkward to watch. The judges were spot on when the commented on Lil.
April 8th, 2009 at 2:01 pm
Also, in regards to Adam not acknowledging the song was arranged by someone else - His performance happened after the show ran too long… so, the only judge comment was Simon simply giving Adam a standing ovation. Just when was Adam supposed to thank the arranger? I must tell you that I was super pissed to come back from a quick run to my neighbor’s house to help him with something only to find out that the show ran long and thus my recorder did not even record his singing! What about people who switch to another show at the top of the hour? I don’t care who is last, they should have the same exposure to the entire audience and have the same time spent on them by the judges as everyone else on the show. Horrible time management. They talk for 10 minutes about 1 contestant and then cut off the last one. Stupid. Unfair.
April 8th, 2009 at 2:20 pm
Let’s face it…Adams voice is more pure than Gary Jules and his performance of it far better than Jules’ original. I would think if Mr Jules was watching he be thinking…”wow this kids great”!!
April 8th, 2009 at 2:31 pm
The difference is that Lil dressed Tina Turneresque, and made some of the same body movements and facial expressions, intonation as Tina. Her version was too similar to Turner’s version. I am a Lil fan and I hate to see her torn apart by the jduge’s, however, they were correct in their criticism–but a bit too harsh.
While Adam’s arrangement of the song was similar to Jules, the vocals, phrasing, intonation were unique. Adam’s version was
him and his vocals far surpass Jules. It was excellent and I think he deserved a standing if only because he was not able to have the judge’s smother him with acolades as they did with Allison and Matt’s mediocre performances as well as Danny’s (which was, imo, better tan mediocre). Plus a lot of people missed Adam because of the time issue.
April 8th, 2009 at 3:37 pm
I set up my AT&T DVR to record last night show but could not see Adam’s performance. When are they going to start sticking with the schedule? They were clearly rushing during the comments on MAtt’s performance and as a result millions of people (voters) did not see the last performance. DVR nowadays is a reality that TV channels need to cope with.
From the ones I saw, Matt was probably the best of the night together with Anoop (surprisingly)
April 8th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
I think Matt is the best one on American Idol. I think Scott will go tonight. Matt always sings the best.
April 8th, 2009 at 4:32 pm
I believe Adam is one of the best people that Idol has had in a long time. Too bad alot of people did not get to see him last night. Hopefully that will not hurt him. Matt is good but Adam has a wider range.
April 8th, 2009 at 5:02 pm
Adam is the most deserving one to win this year, he’s simply the most unique idol, second best would be Matt.
Scott will be one to leave his performance sucked so bad.
April 8th, 2009 at 5:07 pm
ADAM is the Mercedes Benz of this year or any year of American Idol. This guys talent is truly remarkable. Why is he even competing. Why isn’t he there already. He’s a STAR already. He’s even better than those so called stars making music now. He even looks larger than life itself. He’s the new Elvis Presley of this generation except he sings alot better.
April 8th, 2009 at 5:11 pm
I think Lil or Chris will go home tonight, but was very disappointed I did not hear Adam sing. He was to sing after the commercial but our station cut off and I didn’t hear him. Perhaps he can sing again tonight for all that missed him.
April 8th, 2009 at 5:33 pm
Scott will not be eliminated even if America votes him off. The judges will use their one save for him. Let’s face it, in this time of hardship and economic issues, Scott will persevere. I personally feel he should go, but it will probably be Chris.
April 8th, 2009 at 6:00 pm
Set your DVR to end 5 - 10 after the showtime ends. I do this all the time and never have a problem. Although, I must say, it is on the producer’s shoulder that the show runs late. Cut down on the bantering. Paula, Simon, and Ryan’s interactions have become a nuisance, and contribute very little to the show. Perhaps they forgot that we watch AI to see and get to know the performers, not the judges.
April 8th, 2009 at 6:31 pm
Aren’t we forgetting how consistent Danny’s is !!
Just brilliant, my money is on you Danny.
You’re going all the way.
April 8th, 2009 at 6:41 pm
Danny may be a good singer but he doesn’t have the Star quality American Idol producers are looking for, i think they take big consideration for whatever is hip during the season finale/season era, right now it’s the whole fall out boy, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus era in other words it’s the emo bands era so an emo-like artist should give back great revenue specially if that singer is Adam who’s already a star in my opinion and having him win american idol this season is a must to AI’s managers because they always tend to let the less fortunate person win but this time they have no choice but let the one that deserves the most to win.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:20 pm
Matt is ALWAYS consistent. He wore the hat because the judges always refer him to Justin Timberlake which I never did understand. Matt wants to be Matt, so let him. I liked his little swagger with his coat. You can be my part-time lover anytime. lol The others are just to up and down. Go Matt all the way to the FINALS !!!
April 8th, 2009 at 7:27 pm
I am not an Adam fan, but I do appreciate his professional stage presence, and I believe he is a spectactular singer. But, I still think Danny Gokey is a great singer also, with a compelling personality and life story. Don’t underestimate that. Adam may be a little too polished for some of us AI fans. There are alot of us out there who are looking for the diamonds in the rough, not the ones in already in the display counter. And, unless I have missed something in the past 8 seasons, the producers don’t pick the winner, the viewers who vote do. I believe if it were up to the producers, David Archuletta would have won hands down last year, yet David Cook is our reigning American Idol.
April 8th, 2009 at 7:31 pm
I think scott even though i love him
Bottom 3:
Lil -goes back to safety
Scott- goes home
Kris- bottom 2
April 8th, 2009 at 7:46 pm
Does anyone else think it’s a bit odd that Adam is the only one in this competition who worked as a professional singer/performer in Hollywood before coming to AI? I like him enough, but he was put in amongst amatuers to stand out and boost ratings. Oh, and if you missed his performance last night, you’re lucky. It was very disappointing.
April 8th, 2009 at 8:12 pm
I would definitely have to agree with you jt.
Well said.
April 8th, 2009 at 8:21 pm
jf…I can’t let your post be the last one of the evening…lucky they didn’t hear it you say.????? I don’t no what you were listening to …adam was very good last night..hope the people that didn’t hear it last night get the chance tonight..
April 8th, 2009 at 8:27 pm
I totally agree with you jf. If he is that great, why didn’t someone sign him years ago? RC couldn’t let yours be the last one either. Oh, and it was scarey too.
April 8th, 2009 at 8:34 pm
My bottom 3 are:(in order)
1. Lil
2. Scott
3. Kris
April 8th, 2009 at 8:47 pm
It could be Scott but as anyone says, america votes him in because of sheer pity. Lil has a nice vocals but she failed to display originality-she looked every inch a copy cat of Tina Turner. I pity this girl because given a good song, she can prove that she is worth to be clled “american idol -season 8″. Kris chose awrong range of vocals with that “lousy song” . I am a fan of Kris but last night he was too bad with the wrong choice of song “again”???
April 8th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
I believe that Matt should go home. Matt isnt as high ranked as Allison or Danny even Adam. Matt isnt that good, And he has no way of winning.
Allison, Danny, and Adam will be in the -TOP- 3. I know Allison has been in the bottom 3 two times. But hey give her some slack. Shes young and shes very talented. For you who are critizing her shes only 16. Her voice might not be FULLEY developed but she has a voice!
April 8th, 2009 at 9:10 pm
Need I remind anyone of all the blind musicians that are terribly sucessful? I highly doubt it’s pity at all and that’s a horrible and baseless accusation of America. Scott is good. He might go home but he still is good. Stevie Wonder, etc were all blind and were fantastic. No one liked them because they felt sorry. Blind people have just as much a normal life as everyone else, their lack of eyesight is no handicap in the music world. End of story.
Lil Rounds sounds like every other black r&b singer, she is not different so I hope she goes home soon.
April 8th, 2009 at 9:51 pm
I missed the show, who went home
April 8th, 2009 at 11:11 pm
responding to comment about Adam Lambert not giving credit for the “Mad World” song he sang on Tuesday, April 7th.
All contestants sing artists songs without giving credit, why would you single out Adam for not giving credit? Also, the show ran into overtime without all judges being able to give comments…when would Adam have had the time to give credit if he wanted to?
April 9th, 2009 at 12:06 pm
i teevo every show 3 extra min & still missed adam’s performance. i can’t teevo 5-10 min longer like everyone thinks is so easy b/c we tape other shows. it’s just ridiculous to have to listen to 4 judges comment & then miss the last performance of the night which is supposed to be the best. they should have played his performance the next night at least. yes i saw it on utube, it’s not the same. they need to get their act together. drop the last judge, i have no problem w/ her, but i teevo thru at least 1 comment every performer b/c i get bored listening to 4.
